OXFORD — Ole Miss football linebacker Suntarine Perkins was charged early Thursday morning, according to records from the Lafayette County sheriff’s office.
Perkins, 20, was charged with driving under the influence and careless driving. According to the sheriff’s department’s arrest record obtained by the Clarion Ledger, he was booked at 2:40 a.m. This was Perkins’ first DUI offense. An incident report was not made immediately available upon request.
Ole Miss did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Perkins is a former five-star signee and showed flashes of excellence as a freshman in 2023. He figures to become an important on-field figure for the Rebels in 2024 as they look to crack the expanded College Football Playoff.
He finished last season having appeared in all 13 of Ole Miss’ games, playing primarily in an edge-rushing role. Perkins totaled 38 tackles and came away with 3.5 sacks.
