Andy Woodman victorious in touchline battle of former U’s players seeking promotion

Bromley, managed by Woodman, beat Andy Whing’s Solihull Moors on penalties in the Vanarama National League play-off final. Both teams were looking to make the Football League for the first time in their history.

Bromley went ahead after 41 minutes through Michael Cheek’s finish, but the Moors levelled matters three minutes into the second half when Grant Smith pushed out Tahvon Campbell’s shot into the path of Joe Sbarra.

Cheek restored the Bromley lead from the penalty spot just before the hour mark, but Solihull levelled again when Jamey Osborne beat Smith from 20 yards.

Smith would be the hero though, saving the first two Solihull penalties from Tyrese Shade and Joss Labadie in the shoot-out, while Cheek, Olufela Olomola and Jude Arthurs all converted for Bromley, whose skipper Byron Webster slotted in the decisive spot kick as his side won 4-3 on penalties.
