Oxford United boss gives early update on missing midfield duo

Both players were missing from the matchday squad, after failing late fitness tests.

Providing an early update on the pair, U’s head coach Des Buckingham said: “They both failed fitness tests in the afternoon, and that’s as much as I know at the minute.

“That was training on Thursday afternoon, when Josh McEachran had a niggle. He made a pass and felt something, and Marcus was the same right at the end of the session in the last five minutes.”

McEachran stepped in well for the two previous games, against Peterborough United and Lincoln City, when Cameron Brannagan was forced to miss out due to an ankle problem.

Buckingham said: “Josh fits the system extremely well, and to have two players with Josh and Cam, it’s good to have both.

“It would’ve been nice to have Josh because I think his range of passing would’ve unpicked a very resolute defence, but it wasn’t to be, so we kept Cam there.”
