Oxford United midfielder Gorrin in talks over Forest Green move

Oxford United midfielder Alex Rodriguez Gorrin is in talks with Forest Green over a move to the League Two club, sources have told Football Insider.

Gorrin, 30, is coming to the end of his contract at Oxford after rejoining the club on a short-term deal in October.

The Spanish midfielder suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in December 2022 and therefore missed the majority of pre-season last summer.

The Tenerife-born ace is now pretty much back to full fitness but has not been a regular feature for Des Buckingham’s side.

Gorrin has made four appearances for Oxford since his return, but Forest Green are ready to offer the 30-year-old regular first-team action as they battle to secure survival in League Two.

His Kassam Stadium deal is set to expire this month, meaning Troy Deeney’s side could swoop to add him to their ranks for free.

The Spaniard’s only two starts this term have come in the EFL Trophy.

Gorrin suffered his serious knee injury in training in December 2022 and missed the rest of the 2022-23 campaign before returning to fitness last summer.

He has been affiliated with Oxford since joining on a free transfer from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell in 2019.

The 30-year-old, who has also been on the books at Sunderland and Wellington Phoenix, has turned out 113 times for the U’s in total – notching three goals and three assists.

Forest Green, who have been under the management of Deeney since 20 December, sit rock bottom of League Two and are six points from safety.

The Gloucestershire outfit are next in action against Salford on Saturday (6 January).
