Oxford United are delighted to announce the signing of exciting full-back Peter Kioso from Rotherham United.

The 24-year-old joins after a highly impressive season in 2023/24, where he captained Peterborough United while on loan, before being recalled from Rotherham and playing 12 times in the Championship.

Born in Ireland, Kioso joins United with experience of the second-tier from his time at Rotherham and Luton Town, while he has also enjoyed spells throughout the EFL with Bolton Wanderers, Northampton Town and Milton Keynes Dons.

Kioso becomes the third signing of the transfer window, following Will Vaulks and Jacob Knightbridge, and will arrive in time for the start of pre-season training next week.

Speaking for the first time to the club, he said: “I watched a couple of games of the club last season and played against them and I feel like everything I’ve seen from the outside is a family team.

“I want to be part of that, and I feel like we can do something really special.

“The reason I wanted to sign is because it’s a club that knows what direction they want to go in. I want to be part of that as the club have full belief and I do too.

“I want to help the team get stronger. There is a great team here and I need to show the boys why I deserve to be here, and I can’t wait to see the fans next season.”

Head Coach, Des Buckingham, said: “We are really excited to bring in a player of Peter’s ability into our team.

“Peter brings a lot of qualities. He is a player that fits into the profile we are looking for at the right-back position, and he will add to the way we want to play as a team.

“Not only that, but he is also a very good character, so we feel he will add to the level we currently have at the club both on and off the pitch.

“He is the second player that has arrived this summer with Championship experience which is of huge importance as we head into this campaign, and I look forward to working with him.”

Head of Recruitment, Ed Waldron, said: “Peter is an extremely talented player who brings a lot of experience to our squad.

“He has shown his quality at every club and level he has played at, and we believe he will add lots to our team on the pitch in the Championship.

“Peter has shown his leadership qualities having spent time as captain of Peterborough United last season, and we feel he can help to develop the already existing culture at the club.”
