Primark announces opening of five new branches – will it open a store near you?

Primark is set to open five new stores across the UK in 2024 as it pumps £100million into its UK branches this year.

The retail giant is celebrating 50 years on the great British high street with significant extensions that will create 700 new jobs, as announced in an update.

The investment strategy will allocate more than £75million to UK retail, in line with plans announced by the company in November 2023.

Some existing stores will also undergo improvements as part of the program, with new branches set to boost local shopping destinations.

The retailer has set out to improve its high-street presence

New stores will open their doors in Bury St Edmunds, Teesside Park and Glasgow in 2024. An additional two stores will open in Epsom and Newbury in 2025.

Kari Rodgers, the company’s UK retail director, said: “We’ve changed a lot in the 50 years since we opened the doors on our first store in Great Britain in Derby back in 1974, but at our heart, we are still the same.

“We’re as committed as ever to offering the very best value on the high street and making great fashion more affordable and accessible for everyone.

“The latest investment will mean bigger and better stores, hundreds of new jobs across the country and shows our ongoing commitment to the UK high street.”

The location in Bury St.Edmunds will be the first to welcome shoppers, with an opening date set for the 6th March.

The latest additions to Primark’s empire will bring the company’s tally to 195 stores, in the United Kingdom alone

Fifteen existing stores will be refurbished by the end of 2024, with more stores scheduled for renovations at a later date.

The branch in London’s Westfield will almost double in size, to more than 81,000 sq ft as part of an expansion, making it the second biggest store in the capital.

Primark can also be found in 15 other countries outside of the United Kingdom, where it hopes to count 350 stores by the end of 2026.

The fashion brand opened its 60th store in the historical city of Lorca, Spain, last year.

It announced plans to open four more branches across the country in 2024.
