Radio Horton looking for former volunteers for 60th anniversary celebration

Based within Horton General Hospital, Radio Horton is preparing for its diamond jubilee on July 7.

The celebrations will include a 60-hour broadcast, inviting past volunteers to host special programmes.

Having served the hospital patients and wider community for six decades, the station is eager to honour its past, its present, and the numerous individuals who have shaped its journey.

The broadcast will serve as a nostalgic journey, with past presenters reflecting on their time at the station whilst sharing memories and insights.

Chair of Radio Horton, Sam Smette, said: “Radio Horton has been a cornerstone of our community for 60 years, and we are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with our loyal listeners and dedicated volunteers.

“This special broadcast is a testament to the passion and dedication that have defined Radio Horton throughout its history.”

The broadcast will begin on Sunday, July 7, at 7.30pm, aligning with Radio Horton’s 1964 launch, and conclude at 7.30am on Wednesday, July 10.

The celebration will pay tribute to the station’s founders, the late Ted Hanson and Graham Wilton, while reflecting their ongoing vision for Radio Horton’s importance to the community.

Former volunteers interested in contributing to the special broadcasts are encouraged to contact Sam Smette at sam.smette@radiohorton.co.uk.
