Reading v Oxford: Five further arrests following incident ahead of football match

The incident occurred on Friar Street and Station Approach ahead of the Reading versus Oxford football match on December 12.

The force originally arrested 10 people who were involved in the violent incident thought to be related to the match.

Alongside the five additional men arrested include a 19-year-old man from Tilehurst and a 22-year-old from Calcot in Reading.

These arrests come as Reading is set to go up against Oxford FC at their home stadium in Oxfordshire tomorrow (3/1).

The force has decided to increase police presence during the fixture to ensure fans coming to the game and the wider public feel safe whilst visiting Oxford.

Superintendent Adrian Hall, Tactical Commander for the return fixture in Oxford tomorrow (3/2), said: “Officers will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns you may have – please feel free to approach them.

“If you have any information you think could be relevant ahead of the match, please call us on 101, quoting reference number 43230557087.”

 

The additional arrests include:

  • A 19-year-old man from Tilehurst, Reading has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
  • A 22-year-old man from Calcot, Reading has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
  • A 22-year-old man from Upper Arncott, Bicester has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
  • A 24-year-old man from Bermondsey, South East London has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
  • A 48-year-old man from Upper Arncott, Bicester has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

All the men have been released on conditional bail.
