Two Oxford United promotion heroes set to leave Wembley winners

Goalkeeper Jamie Cumming and right-back Fin Stevens both joined United this season in loan moves from Premier League clubs.

Signing from Chelsea and Brentford, both players have played their parts in helping the Yellows win promotion to the Championship.

Cumming moved to the Kassam Stadium in January but has had a profound impact, making 23 appearances and keeping eight clean sheets.

Two of these shutouts came in the League One play-offs including the 2-0 final win versus Bolton Wanderers at Wembley.

Stevens arrived earlier than the goalkeeper with his signing being announced by the club last summer.

Making 43 appearances in all competitions, the right back has also been pivotal in helping United reach English football’s second tier for the first time since 1999.

This run has included five assists and a goal with Stevens also making two appearances in the play-offs.

Yet the players’ futures were cast into doubt on Tuesday when the club posted a photo of the pair on social media alongside a farewell message.

Writing on X, the club said: “Writing themselves into OUFC history!

“Thank you to Jamie Cumming and Fin Stevens for their huge effort and contributions whilst on loan this season. All the best for the future!”

Fans had wondered if the pair would join the Yellows on full-time deals and were shocked to see the post.

“That’s sounds very much like they won’t be coming back next season,” said one fan.
