‘Very humble and happy’: Des Buckingham makes appearance at pub festival

The United manager is fresh off the Yellow’s Wembley heroics and is enjoying some downtime before tackling the Championship next season.

The 39-year-old was in attendance for The Plough’s ‘Spring into Summer’ festival which took place on Sunday (May 26).

There was live music playing on the day with special deals on drinks and a hog roast in the afternoon.

The pub on North Street was recently taken over by The Olive Tree Pub Company, who are a group of five local people.

One of the five, Arran Hodges said: “Buckingham was very humble and happy to have pictures with staff.

“He spent hours in there on Saturday at our party table with friends. They were all in very good spirits.”

Oxford United were promoted to the second tier of English football for the first time in 25 years after two goals from Josh Murphy saw them beat Bolton Wanderers 2-0 in the League One play-off final at Wembley.

A social media post from the pub said: “It was great to welcome Oxford United’s promotion-winning manager Des Buckingham at our Spring into Summer festival yesterday.

“Many thanks to all our Olive Tree family and friends that attended and made it such a special day.”
