The Arkle Chase takes pride of place on the horse racing calendar as the most prestigious novice chase over the minimum distance.
It is the second race on the Cheltenham Festival schedule and it is a fast-and-furious contest as there are 13 fences to be tackled at speed on the Old Course.
El Fabiolo smashed Jonbon in last season’s renewal of the Arkle – named after the three-time Gold Cup winner – and the trophy looks likely to remain in Ireland as the home team lack stars in division.
