Young Defender Joins the U’s

Oxford United have continued to build their squad ahead of the new Championship season with the addition of left-back, Jack Currie.

The 22-year-old was out of contract in the summer but AFC Wimbledon triggered a 12 month extension.

The defender has turned out 95 times for the Dons, aiding the team with five goal contributions.

Speaking to the club for the first time, he said: “The gaffer, the coaching staff, and obviously the project they had laid out is something I’m really excited about and is something I’ve been looking forward to for so long.

“The club is at the stage now where it’s looking to push on and it is a privilege to be a part of. The gaffer has trust in me to do a job and obviously perform week in, week out with the boys.

“I’m the type of player to play for the badge if the cause is right, which it is here. I’ll run through brick walls, I’ll play with passion and with my heart on my sleeve. At the end of the day I need to do a job defensively, and that’s what I like to think I’m very good at.”

Des Buckingham added: “Jack is a player that has really impressed us and we are delighted to bring him in.

“He fits in perfectly to the way we want to play and arrives with plenty of experience in league football.

“We believe he can make a positive impact on our current group and also has the type of character that will help us continue to drive and develop the culture and environment within our team.”
