U’s youngster named in Wales squad for Euros

The 16-year-old forward is one of 20 players selected in head coach Craig Knight’s squad, with the tournament to be held in Cyprus this summer.

Wales are in Group B, where they will take on Denmark, Austria and Croatia. Qualified nations have been split into four groups of four, with the top two in section then progressing to the knockout stages.

Griffiths became United’s youngest ever player to represent the club when he was introduced from the bench for the final quarter of an hour as the U’s won 3-1 at Northampton Town in the EFL Trophy earlier this season.

That accolade has since been claimed by Leo Snowden, who became the first 15-year-old to play for United’s first team when he came off the bench against Chelsea Under-21s in the EFL Trophy.
